The 51th: Ninh Binh Province: A Province Active in Attracting FDI (Foreign Direct Investment)

When a manufacturing company enters Vietnam, choosing which region to build an industrial park in is an important point, but there are provinces and cities across the region that are actively working to welcome FDI, and we would like to introduce some examples of this.

Following a reorganization of government ministries in July last year, Ninh Binh Province merged with the former Ha Nam and Nam Dinh provinces to become an important production base in northern Vietnam.

1. Location / Area / Population

Ninh Binh Province is located in the Red River Delta region in northern Vietnam, with an area of 3,943 km2 and a population of approximately 4.42 million.

2. Industrial parks in Ninh Binh Province

After the reorganization of ministries, Ninh Binh province now has 24 industrial parks:

Tamdiep 1 Industrial Park

Tamdiep 2 Industrial Park

③Phuc Son Industrial Estate

Giankhau Industrial Park

Giankhau Expansion Industrial Park

Khanhcu Industrial Park

Khanhphu Industrial Park

Kim Son Industrial Complex

Thich Tho Industrial Park (both in the former Ninh Binh Province)

Dongvan 1 Industrial Park

Dongvan 2 Industrial Park

Dongvan 3 Industrial Park

GNP Dongvan 3 Industrial Center

Dongvan 4 Industrial Park

Hoa Mac Industrial Park

Chauson Industrial Complex

Thanhlien Industrial Complex

Thai Ha Industrial Park

Kim Bang Industrial Park (former Ha Nam Province)

Hoa Xa Industrial Park

Bao Minh Industrial Park

Rang Dong Textile and Sewing Industrial Park

My Thuan Industrial Park

There is also the My Trung Industrial Park (both in the former Nam Dinh Province).

3. Characteristics of Ninh Binh Province

Ninh Binh Province is located in the north of Vietnam, and its capital is 90km south of Hanoi, about a two-hour drive away. It is considered one of the birthplaces of Vietnamese culture, and was the capital during the 10th century during the Dinh Dynasty, before the capital was moved to Hanoi. During the French colonial period, it developed as an industrial city primarily focused on the textile industry, and the province remains known as one of the centers of Vietnam’s garment industry. Many tourists also visit Trang An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

4. Japanese companies expanding into the country

Major Japanese companies operating in Ninh Binh Province include Shikoku Cable Vietnam (Dong Van 2 Industrial Park), Pronics Vietnam (Dong Van 3 Industrial Park), and Dynaox Vietnam (Hoa Mac Industrial Park).

5. Conclusion

Ninh Binh Province is located at the southern end of the Hanoi metropolitan area, and since land prices are still low compared to the major northern industrial provinces and cities (Bac Ninh Province, Bac Giang Province, Hanoi City, Hai Phong City), it is an area that is favored by new companies and suppliers, and the industrial composition of the province’s industrial parks is progressing with supplier concentration-type development, such as machining, automobile-related, precision parts, and high-tech manufacturing. In addition, while the major northern industrial provinces and cities mentioned above are currently facing problems of land shortages and rising labor costs, Ninh Binh Province still has a lot of land available for development, and labor costs are low, offering great cost benefits.
